Baseball Moving!!!
The upcoming season will see teams from the Oriole Diamond Club making a move west. The Minor's, Major's, and Pony's teams will no longer be in the traveling splinter league that they have been a part of in recent seasons. They will now be joining the Chippewa Valley Baseball League. This league is run by the Seymour Ball Club, they also run the Chippewa Valley Girls Fastpitch League which is the league our girls programs are currently members of. This move will give the teams more flexibility in scheduling games.
The schedules will be made at the league scheduling meeting in early April. Coaches will get together with other member coaches and will complete the schedules at this time. By the time practices begin schedules will be ready to be distributed to the teams. Games will be played both at home and on the road and can be scheduled any day of the week which should eliminate the need for most weekend commitments. The league does not set a number for how may games you play, but does require that you play a minimum of seven games against other league members in order to qualify for the playoffs and All-Star Game. These games can be against any other members including teams from the same city. Games will start before school is out, so the goal would be to schedule any road games against teams that are a shorter distance away. Some of the local communities that have participated in this league in recent years include; Cadott, Thorp, Fall Creek, Augusta, and Cornell. Some of the other members are Seymour, Eau Claire, Bloomer, Mondovi, Colfax, and Menomonie.
The hope is that by moving into this new league the window for season play can be extended somewhat. Practices should get going in April and games should start in May weather permitting. The League playoffs will start in the end of June and wrap up in early July with the All-Star Games taking place the following week. Playoff games will be played at the home of the higher seeded team and the championship games will take place in Seymour. The All-Star Games will also be in Seymour, each coach will nominate two of their own players to participate in the game. Participants will receive a jersey for the game.
